Following today’s new ONS population projection, Frank Field MP and Nicholas Soames MP of the Cross-Party Group on Balanced Migration said:

“These new figures underline the importance of getting immigration back under control and keeping it there. If net migration were allowed to drift back up to 225,000 a year the UK population in mid century would reach 80 million from 64 million today – an increase of twice the population of London. Under balanced migration, which we advocate, it would be held at a much more manageable 71 million.”

Frank Field MP added: “I would urge the Government to begin by extending the restrictions on the movement of Romanian and Bulgarian citizens intending to work and live here while unemployment and youth unemployment remain so high in this country.”
